Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Michael David Peek, 41, of Raven Rock Road, Boone, in a news release on Thursday.

Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported larceny at the Food Lion located at 608 Turnersburg Highway on Saturday, September 20, Campbell said.

Store employees informed deputies that a male suspect had stolen over $1,000 worth of merchandise and left the premises without paying, according to the news release. Deputies were unable to locate the suspect at that time, and the case was assigned to Detective Creasy for follow up.

On Tuesday, September 23, deputies responded to the same business after employees called to report the suspect had returned to the store, Campbell said.

When employees attempted to confront the suspect, he fled the scene in a silver vehicle. Deputies were able to obtain a more detailed description of the suspect and the vehicle after reviewing surveillance footage, Campbell said.

While investigating this case, Detective Creasy learned the same suspect and vehicle had been involved in a similar incident at a business in Davie County, according to the news release.

Peek was identified as the suspect, and Detective Creasy obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Peek was later located and arrested by Davie County Sheriff’s Office deputies. He was transported to the Davie County Detention Center, where he was issued a $2,500 secured bond by Magistrate P.T. Hennelly for a  felony larceny charge.
