An eastern Iredell County resident faces a felony charge in connection with a stolen backhoe that was recovered in a field near Statesville.

Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Brett Michael Myers, 30, of Deerchase Circle, Statesville, in a news release Monday.
ICSO deputies responded to Peppercorn Lane on November 6 after receiving a report about some unusual finds — a John Deere backhoe on a trailer and several other items — found abandoned in a field, Campbell said.
When deputies arrived, they confirmed the equipment had been stolen in Mecklenburg County a few weeks earlier, according to the news release. Detectives responded to the scene to process the scene and gather evidence.
While detectives were working, a vehicle entered the area but quickly tried to leave after spotting law enforcement, Campbell said. Deputies stopped the car and identified Myers.
While talking with detectives, Myers admitted he was there to pick up the stolen backhoe and property, Campbell said. He was arrested and charged with felony possession of stolen property and misdemeanor resist, delay and obstruct a public officer.
Myers was taken before Magistrate Thompson, who gave him no bond on the felony charge. He is being held at the Iredell County Detention Center.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may follow.
According to the ICSO, Myers’ criminal history includes the following charges: Misdemeanor Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Attempted Trafficking of Opiates, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance, and three misdemeanor drug charges.
