A registered sex offender faces new criminal charges following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Brittain Lee Nichols, 32, of Forum Drive, Mooresville, in a news release Thursday.
The Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation on December 1 after receiving information concerning a registered sex offender who was possibly training juvenile employees at a business located off Brawley School Road in Mooresville, Campbell said.
The offender was identified as Nichols, and the report was assigned to Sex Offender Registry Compliance Detective B. Padgett.
As part of the investigation, Detective Padgett interviewed witnesses and obtained personnel and training records from the business, according to the news release. The detective quickly confirmed that Nichols had been training juvenile employees in the business, Campbell said.
As a result of the evidence collected during the investigation, the detective obtained an arrest warrant charging Nichols with felony sex offender supervision of child. Nichols was arrested on December 5 and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. Magistrate Nicholson set his bond at $25,000.
According to the ICSO, Nichols’ criminal history includes five counts of felony indecent liberties with a student.
He was convicted of two counts on April 21, 2025, and received a suspended sentence, according to the N.C. Department of Adult Correction. He was placed on supervised probation for 30 months.
