A registered sex offender faces new felony charges following an undercover investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Christopher Sean Resue, 30, Woodlawn Drive, Statesville, in a news release Thursday.
On August 28, Resue attempted to engage in inappropriate contact with a minor, Campbell said. As part of the investigation, ICSO Detective C. James posed as a child during online conversations to identify individuals seeking to exploit minors, according to the news release.
During communications with the detective, Resue expressed his desire to engage in sexual acts with an individual he believed to be an underage child, the sheriff said. The disturbing nature of these conversations prompted immediate action by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, Campbell added.
The investigation resulted in the seizure of items connected to the investigation, according to the news release.
Resue, who pleaded guilty in Iredell County Superior Court to four Counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor on August 13, was arrested and charged with three counts of indecent liberties with children, solicitation of a child by computer, sex offender on social media and two counts of probation violation.
Magistrate Russell issued a $500,000 secured bond.
This case highlights the importance of proactive, undercover investigations to safeguard children from predators who attempt to exploit them online, Campbell said.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
