Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Dewan Lafaye Alexander, 48, of East Greenbriar Road, Statesville, in a news release.

On Sunday, May 11, ICSO Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team Deputy Sharpe conducted a traffic stop on a Honda Accord traveling west on Industrial Drive due to an expired registration, Campbell said.

Alexander, who was operating the vehicle, was informed of the violation. While speaking with Alexander, Deputy Sharpe noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to the news release.

After Alexander admitted to smoking marijuana in the vehicle earlier in the day, the deputy searched the vehicle and found four dosage units of ecstasy and a small amount of marijuana, Campbell said.

Alexander was arrested at the scene and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. She was brought before Magistrate Thompson, who set her bond at $3,500.

Alexander is charged with felony possession of ecstasy, felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, and three misdemeanor drug offenses. She was also issued a citation for the expired registration and inspection.
