A Harmony man faces felony assault and gun charges in connection with a domestic dispute that occurred over the weekend.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Joshua Anson Orner, 35, of Skyview Lake Road, Harmony, in a news release Monday.
ICSO deputies responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute involving an active assault in the 500 block of Old Mocksville Road near Statesville on Saturday, October 25, Campbell said. Iredell County Emergency Communications personnel briefly lost contact with the caller, but before the call ended, the caller reported that the suspect — subsequently identified as Orner — had threatened to kill her, according to the news release.
Deputies A. Duecker and M. Dyson arrived on the scene and heard a woman screaming about a gun, the sheriff said.
Deputies made contact with Orner of Harmony, and during an initial search found a firearm magazine but no gun, according to the news release.
Through their investigation, deputies determined that a woman at the residence had been assaulted and attempted to place Orner under arrest, Campbell said.
The suspect then tried to flee and assaulted the deputies during a struggle that followed, according to the news release.
Orner was ultimately taken into custody. A subsequent search of the area outside the residence led to the discovery of a handgun, Campbell said.
Orner is a convicted felon with multiple prior felony convictions and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Based on the evidence and statements collected, Orner was charged with Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Felony Assault by Strangulation Inflicting Serious Injury, Misdemeanor Assault on a Female, Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence, Misdemeanor Assault on a Government Official, Misdemeanor Resist Delay Obstruct and Misdemeanor Simple Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance.
Orner was taken before Magistrate J. Hollar and was ordered to be held without bond.
According to the ICSO, his background includes the following charges: four counts of Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property, two counts of Misdemeanor Possession of Alcohol Underage, Misdemeanor Shoplifting, two counts of Felony Sell or Deliver Marijuana, Driving while Impaired, Misdemeanor Assault on a Female, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Heroin, Felony Sell Methamphetamine, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver a Counterfeit Controlled Substance, and Misdemeanor Maintaining a Vehicle or Dwelling for a Controlled Substance.
