The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office on Monday released the name of the individual whose remains were found behind a home on Newton Drive near Statesville last week.

Using medical records, a medical examiner identified the remains as 50-year-old Kevin Scott Queen, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release.

Queen, who lived in the home at 2336 Newton Drive where the remains were found, died of natural causes, the sheriff said.

The Sheriff’s Office opened a death investigation on July 16, after a citizen called 911 and reported that what appeared to be human remains were found in the driveway near the carport.

Due to the state of decomposition, the identification of the deceased person on the scene was not possible, according to the news release. Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded and determined the home was not abandoned and someone had been living on the property, Campbell said.

The remains were transported to North Carolina Baptist Hospital for an autopsy to identify the deceased and determine the cause of death.
