Thanks to nine days of great weather last fall, 15 students from Iredell County will receive $2,000 scholarships.
The Statesville Kiwanis Club recently presented the scholarship checks to 10 of those students. The remainder will be handed out at the club’s July meeting.
The monies for the scholarships came from proceeds from the Iredell County Agricultural Fair, which is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.
“This is the highlight of our year,” said Joe Stephens, who heads up the club’s scholarship committee.
The favorable weather at last year’s fair led to record attendance, which in turn, allowed the club to allot more money for scholarships this year.
“It was the best year we’ve had in a long time,” Stephens said.
The 15 scholarships were also a record-setter for the club.
