A new veteran-led support group is launching in Statesville to help tackle how PTSD affects everyday life from relationships with others to challenges at work.
The program, called PATH (PTSD Anonymous Treatment for Heroes), is the first peer-group offering from The PTSD, a veteran-founded resilience initiative created by Statesville resident and veteran Derek DeVos, TSgt (Ret.), U.S. Air Force.
The PTSD has partnered with Fifth Street Ministries to host the weekly, trauma-informed sessions every Tuesday morning, beginning September 2.
“PTSD doesn’t just stay in a veteran’s head, it affects how we work, how we relate to others, and how we live day-to-day,” said DeVos. “PATH gives veterans a safe, trauma-informed place to connect with each other, share strategies, and move toward resilience together. It’s all non-clinical, so it’s a comfortable place where veterans can feel safe.”
Each session will focus on real-life challenges like navigating triggers at work, building communication skills with coworkers and family, and balancing hyper-vigilance with trust. Snacks will be provided, and the first group will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Fifth Street Ministries.
Fifth Street Ministries is located at 1421 Fifth Street in Statesville.
