Special to IFN
To honor the Town of Mooresville’s sister city and its local business corporation, The Rotary Club of Top of the Lake-Mooresville will dedicate two monuments for the making and sustaining of good will through diplomacy.
Peace poles dedicated to the victims and survivors of war, armed conflict and terrorism will be installed in Iredell County, honoring the contributions of business and political leaders, advocates for peace and local and international delegations for de-escalation.
These poles, first planted in post-war Japan, have been widely distributed throughout the United States thanks to Rotary and other civic organizations. In foreign languages and English, they say, “May peace prevail,” standing at eight feet high.
The Rotary Club of Top of the Lake-Mooresville will plant these peace posts in partnership with Lowe’s YMCA and NGK Ceramics, celebrating the causes of human and civil rights for which it was chartered. In honor of Hockenheim, Germany, the prayer will be written in German in addition to Japanese, Spanish and English.
The first peace pole will become publicly dedicated at the Lowe’s YMCAon May 29 at 4 p.m. The second dedication will be held at Liberty Park on June 9 at 4 p.m. Mayor Chris Carney and District Governor Kevin Kendrick on behalf of the Rotary Clubs of District 7680 will attend the ceremony.
The Rotary Club of Top of the Lake-Mooresville was founded in 2004 and remains a premier service club in the Mooresville community.
