A Matthews man who was free on bond for dozens of felony charges in Mecklenburg County was jailed without bond after being arrested on new charges over the weekend following an investigation by the Troutman Police Department.

Officers responded to several reports of vehicles being broken into in areas around the Iredell County Fairgrounds on Friday, November 28, according to a TPD news release. The vehicles’ windows had been damaged, allowing the perpetrator to gain access to and steal items from inside the vehicle, police said.

During the investigation, officers were able to identify a suspect vehicle, which they located and stopped on Saturday, November 29, on Charlotte Highway, police said.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as Sidney Truesdale, 41, of Steven Mill Road, Matthews, was found to be in possession of some items that were reported stolen during the incidents on the previous day, according to the news release.

Truesdale was placed under arrest and charged with eight counts of felony break or enter a motor vehicle, one count of felony larceny, five counts of misdemeanor larceny, and eight counts of property damage.

He was also served with outstanding warrants taken out by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for breaking and entering motor vehicles.

Truesdale was taken before a magistrate, where he was ordered to be held with no bond.

The suspect was out of jail on pre-trial release for more than 40 previous charges of breaking and entering motor vehicles and possession of a firearm by a felon in Mecklenburg County, police said.
