Union Grove Elementary School held a special Veterans Day program to honor local veterans earlier this month.
“We gather to honor those who have served and continue to serve in the United States armed forces,” said Principal Keely Ward. “Your service and presence here is a true inspiration to our students, staff and our community.”
Student Liam Redmond led the Pledge of Allegiance and student Cooper Ward sang the National Anthem. Clay Lunsford and Walt McGarvey played prelude music for the National Anthem and the Armed Forces Medley.
“Veterans Day is a special day to honor all of our men and women who have served in United States military in times of war and peace,” said student James Howard.
“I’m proud to lead the flag detail team who is leading today’s program. We are proud to recognize our veterans and their families for their courage, commitment, and sacrifice,” said School Resource Officer Todd Hooks. “We pay tribute to our heroes.”
Cassidy Campbell played Taps on the bagpipes after a moment of silence for the fallen soldiers.
The school’s Honor Flag detail team demonstrated proper flag folding technique as they paid their respect to those who served. Detail members included: Howard, Payslie Manners, Charlie Chenevey, Mikalyn Whitley, Ashley Stroud, Hudson Cass, Ward, Redmond, Nora Chenevey and Raelyn Roten.
At the close of the ceremony, members handed out handmade art and thank you notes created by students to the veterans.
