The West Iredell Volunteer Fire Department conducted a live burn training in a structure that was donated by the property owner for that purpose on Monday. Personnel from Troutman and Monticello fire departments also participated in this training, which was held several hours after these departments battled a structure fire on Pecos Lane, showing their dedication to their communities. Stony Point VFD also participated.
Firefighters were able to complete multiple training scenarios before the structure was deemed unsafe and allowed to completely burn down under supervision. Live burn training is vital because it offers the closest environment possible to what firefighters will encounter in a true structure fire. The training was under the command of West Iredell VFD Chief Jerry Houston.
