DACI to presents ‘In The Know’ event to educate parents, community about youth substance misuse

The Drug-Alcohol Coalition of Iredell (DACI) will present its annual “In The Know: A Community Conversation on Substance Misuse” event on Tuesday, March 10, at the Statesville Event Center.

The event is free and open to everyone in the community interested in preventing drug and alcohol misuse, abuse, and overdose deaths and improving the lives of our community members.

Lunch is provided. If possible, please register by March 3 for lunch counts.

Speakers

Gail Embt
Dr. Shuchin Shukla

The event will feature a keynote presentation by Dr. Shuchin Shukla, who has years of experience supporting families navigating substance use challenges. Shukla brings a compassionate, practical approach to helping loved ones understand their next steps.

His presentation “What Do I Do Now?” will help family members move from information to action with clear, supportive guidance.

Gail Embt will also speak on letting go, ending power struggles, reconnecting, and setting boundaries. She is a certified CRAFT clinician, SMART Recovery facilitator, and advanced Invitation to Change practitioner.

As a mother who navigated challenges with her two sons, Embt combines personal experience with professional expertise to equip parents with the skills and resources necessary to help their children and help families transform from feelings of anger and anxiety to calm confidence.

There will be three breakout sessions with a variety of topic choices, including:

♦ The Intersection of Mental Health and Substance Use
