Callie Farmer was publicly recognized at the Iredell Health Foundation Fourth Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast on March 4.

Special to IFN

When you meet Callie Farmer, you encounter a woman whose life story is a testament to the transformative power of resilience and compassion. Her journey is not defined by the challenges she faced but by the extraordinary way she turned those challenges into opportunities to uplift others.

From childhood, Farmer lived with Type 1 diabetes, a condition that could have easily limited her dreams. Instead, she embraced life with determination, channeling her experience as a patient into a career in healthcare and a deep empathy for those in need. Her compassion extended beyond humans too — for years, she fostered countless animals, opening her home and offering them love and safety.

In late 2022, she faced another life-altering challenge: kidney failure requiring nightly dialysis. Even then, she refused to let adversity define her. While enduring the physical and emotional toll, she continued working and fostering animals, embodying perseverance and selflessness.

June 2023 marked a turning point. Farmer received a double organ transplant — a kidney and pancreas. Many would have focused solely on recovery, but she saw her second chance as a call to serve.

“Because of one incredible, selfless donor, I was given the chance to keep living, to keep laughing, growing, loving, and simply being. I honor them today with every breath, every beat of my heart, and every moment I get to share with the people I love. Their gift changed everything,” she said.

When Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, she sprang into action. What began as a week of volunteering evolved into a massive relief effort. She coordinated airlifts of essential supplies, organized truckloads of donations, and ensured families received everything from food and medicine to tents and campers for winter survival.

Farmer’s story is one of unwavering strength and boundless compassion. After a major transplant, she could have focused on herself, but instead, she chose to uplift others. Her tireless efforts have restored hope to countless families and inspired an entire community. For these reasons, she stands as a shining example of resilience and humanity.

“This journey has taught me to live with intention, to love without hesitation, and to hold closely what truly matters. Life is short – don’t wait to say how you feel, don’t hold back joy, and don’t overlook the small, beautiful moments.”

Farmer was publicly recognized as the 2026 Uplift Woman of the Year by the Iredell Health Foundation Fourth Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast on March 4, where she shared her uplifting story of grit and grace. Over 300 women were in attendance.

“It was a morning dedicated to celebrating leadership, compassion, and service in our community,” shared Kim Holland, Iredell Health Foundation development coordinator.

“Surrounded by inspiring women doing extraordinary things, everyone who attended left uplifted, energized, and ready to conquer the world. The Fourth Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast not only honored the remarkable contributions of women, it supported the Women’s Health Fund at Iredell Health Foundation, ensuring that women in our community have access to essential preventive and diagnostic care, regardless of financial circumstances.”

The Fifth Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast will be on March 3, 2027, at The Cove Church in Mooresville. Molly Grantham will serve as the keynote speaker.
