Food for Days backpack meals ministry is asking the community to help support its efforts to ensure children facing food insecurity don’t go hungry.
The ministry, which began in 2011, serves students weekly during the school year. The organization partners with Iredell-Statesville Schools and Mooresville Graded Schools.
Food for Days currently provides weekend meal bags to 19 schools within Iredell County. In the past week, the group delivered 428 bags containing six meals each. These food bags are delivered to school social workers, who ensure the students receive the bag to take home weekly.
Volunteers help pack the bags, inventory the items, and deliver them to the schools. A group of churches donates the necessary food items and adopt schools.
Unfortunately, food costs have increased by 40 percent, and Food for Day needs additional support to keep the ministry well stocked with food for students.
If an individual, business/agency, or church interested in supporting a child for the school year can do so for $300. You can donate at https://foodfordays.org/give/.
Community food drives also offset our food costs. Each month, the organization collects a different item. To donate these requested items, visit https://foodfordays.org/needs/. The items can be dropped off at at Fire Station 1, located at 316 S. Meeting Street, Statesville; Animal Hospital of Statesville, 181 Mocksville Hwy., Statesville; First Bank, 347 N. Main Street, Mooresville; or at the Food for Days office, 691 Brookwood Street, Mooresville.
