Fort Dobbs State Historic Site will temporarily close to the public effective Tuesday, February 17, to allow staff to move into the site’s newly constructed 3,700 square-foot visitor center. The closure applies to all site facilities, including the fort, restrooms, tour trails, and parking lot until further notice.

During the closure, staff will relocate offices and site operations to the new space, train and onboard new employees, begin exhibit fabrication, and stock the expanded gift shop. The staff anticipates welcoming back the public in mid-April with a soft opening of the new visitor center. A date for the grand opening will be announced later this spring.

Updates to the site’s operating schedule will be posted on Fort Dobbs’ social media accounts and website.

Fort Dobbs is administered by the Division of State Historic Sites, part of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

About Fort Dobbs

Situated in the Piedmont region of North Carolina near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Fort Dobbs interprets the French and Indian War (1754-1763) or Seven Years War. As the only state historic site associated with the period, it represents the state’s link with a global war for empire that crossed five continents, lasted nearly a decade, and sowed the seeds for independence.
