The HEARTS Collaborative will holds its fifth annual Irish Connections event, “HEARTS Irish Connections ‘26: A Sharpe Focus,” from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 21. This year’s celebration marks a milestone as the first major “HEARTS Happening” at the organization’s newest affiliate, the Historic Sharpe House in Statesville.

The community is invited to the Historic Sharpe House Garden Stage for an immersive exploration of the Scots-Irish immigrants who shaped the region in the 18th century. The event will specifically honor the legacy of William Sharpe and his Revolutionary contributions to America and Iredell County.

Event Highlights

● Historical Presentation: Renowned historian Dr. Hugh Dussek will recount the Sharpe family tale and the broader Revolutionary history of the North Carolina Piedmont.
Live Celtic Music: Performances by The Celtic Sessions, featuring musicians Julian Charles, RG Absher, and Naomi Orr. The trio utilizes traditional instruments—including the Celtic harp, bagpipes, and hammered dulcimer—to weave together ancient folk music and local storytelling.
● Irish Dance: The award-winning Connick School of Irish Dance returns, showcasing the vibrant cultural foundation of Irish dance that has served the greater Charlotte area since 1994.

“The Sharpe House is coming into focus in 2026,” said Abigail Jennings, HEARTS founder and president. “We are reinvigorating this historic landmark with our mission of history, ecology, arts, reunion, trails, and sustainability. This event is a perfect example of how we weave the threads of local lore into a vibrant, interconnected tapestry for our community.”

The Historic Sharpe House is located at 402 S Center Street in Statesville.
