Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County held a meaningful first flag raising ceremony on March 6 at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville to commemorate the installation of new flagpoles on the property for the first time since the facility opened.
When the hospice house first opened, flagpoles were not included in the original construction. Thanks to the generosity and leadership of Frank Owens, the Iredell Rescue Squad Foundation, and Bob Watts, the project was funded and completed. Owens and Watts also serve as volunteers at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House.
The flagpoles were installed in memory of Bobby James, honoring his legacy and connection to the community.
Family members and friends of Bobby James, including his wife Jane James, attended the ceremony. Hospice staff gathered alongside members of the organization’s Board of Directors, including Pam Britt and Ronald Mack, to witness the first raising of the American flag at the hospice house.
Members of American Legion Post 66 assisted with the ceremony, ensuring the flags were raised properly for the first time in accordance with traditional flag protocol.
The ceremony served as a moment of reflection and gratitude as the American flag was raised and now proudly flies at the entrance of the hospice house.
Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County extends its sincere appreciation to Frank Owens, the Iredell Rescue Squad Foundation, Bob Watts, and American Legion Post 66 for helping make the project and ceremony possible.
The S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House provides compassionate end-of-life care for patients and families throughout Iredell County. The newly installed flagpoles now stand as a symbol of service, remembrance, and community support.
