Iredell-Statesville Schools officials recognized 23 teachers for earning their National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification earlier this week.

Twenty-three Iredell-Statesville Schools educators were recognized earlier this month for earning or renewing their National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification, which is among the highest honors in the profession.

I-SS Director of Employee Relations Nichole Tilley praised the group for their dedication, noting that National Board Certification is among the most rigorous credentials in education.

The process requires teachers to demonstrate deep content knowledge, reflective instructional practices, measurable impact on student learning and a continued commitment to professional growth.

North Carolina continues to lead the nation with more than 24,000 National Board certified teachers.

“These educators exemplify the very best of our profession,” Tilley said. “Their work strengthens classrooms, supports student achievement, and reinforces our commitment to high-quality teaching and learning.”

The district recognized the following teachers who renewed their certification:

• Gretchyn Bedard, Crossroads Arts and Science Early College;
• Jon Edge, Woodland Heights Middle School;
• Meghann Fairchild, Woodland Heights Elementary School;
• Cortney Frasier, District K-12 Fine Arts Coordinator;
• Angela Hedrick, North Iredell Middle School;
• Candice Litton, Shepherd Elementary School;
• Amy Lynch, Sharon Elementary School;
• Natalie Spencer, East Iredell Middle School;
• Katherine Templeton (Union Grove Elementary School; and
• Mark Wellman, East Iredell Elementary School.

Newly certified teachers include:

• Leann Adkins, Troutman Elementary School;
• Lauren Clark, Third Creek Elementary School;
• Donette Clendenin, Troutman Elementary School;
• Sarah Cope, Celeste Henkel Elementary School;
• Ami Gibson, Lake Norman High School;
• Kelly Hill, Union Grove Elementary School;
• Kimberlee Koehler, Troutman Elementary School;
• Rayna Maguire, Lakeshore Elementary School;
• Jennifer Miller, Cloverleaf Elementary School;
• Christa Roseberry, West Iredell High School; and
• Karen Shea, West Iredell High School.

District leaders expressed pride in the group’s accomplishments and gratitude for the leadership they bring to their schools each day.
