The Iredell Arts Council invites the public to attend an opening reception for an exhibition featuring works by artist Mary Fiorillo on Wednesday, January 7.

The reception will be held from from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 203 S. Meeting Street in Statesville.

A longtime North Carolina resident, Fiorillo studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design, where she developed a deep interest in the challenge of conveying light through paint. Her work is especially focused on muted, melancholy, and subdued light, an aesthetic that draws inspiration from UK painter George Shaw.

Fiorillo’s paintings explore the beauty of the mundane moments that shape daily life. What some might overlook, she holds dear, finding poetry and meaning in stillness, familiarity, and subtle shifts in atmosphere. This body of work serves as a celebration of those intimate, often unnoticed moments.

The opening reception is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to enjoy downtown Statesville and take advantage of nearby public parking.
