James Brock & Chinobay

Special to IFN

Children’s Hope Alliance and Heartstrings Therapeutic Music & Art Program, in conjunction with the Iredell Arts Council, announced that James Brock & Chinobay will perform on Thursday, March 12, at the Heartstrings Gracie Building on the Barium Springs campus.

The concert, which is part of the Music Speaks series, runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. It is free and open to the community.

Music Speaks is an inspirational musician series that will take place during the spring. This project was supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. A variety of guest musicians will perform some of their music for the local community.

Brock & Chinobay is a cross-cultural world-music duo formed three years ago by James Brock, a 39-year-old North American professional world percussionist, and Chinobay, a Ugandan-born multi-instrumentalist. Brock brings a deep rhythmic voice through instruments such as the udu, nagara, kanjira, and frame drums, while Chinobay weaves melody and tradition through the kora, endongo, and akogo, drawing from his roots and his leadership of the World Bridge music and dance group. Together, Brock & Chinobay create immersive performances that value collaboration, education, and genuine connection—inviting audiences not just to listen, but to participate in a shared global musical experience.

Educators are encouraged to have their students attend. All musicians and music lovers are also encouraged to participate.

Refreshments for the monthly spring 2026 music events generously provided by The Exchange Club of Mooresville / Lake Norman.

The event will take place each month at Children’s Hope Alliance Heartstrings Program Gracie Building, located at 183 Barium Springs Drive, Statesville.
