Lake Norman High School’s award-winning Winter Guard Teams will present a community show on Thursday, April 2. The show, which will be held at the LNHS gymnasium, will begin at 6 p.m.
The Lake Norman Guard program, an auxiliary unit of the Lake Norman Wildcat Marching Band, has experienced a period of dramatic and successful growth since its re-establishment in 2022. After a hiatus of almost a decade, the program’s revival has been explosive, now proudly fielding both a fall Colorguard and a highly competitive Winter Guard ensemble.
Beginning with just five members in the fall Colorguard of 2022, the program has grown exponentially. The current Winter Guard season includes an impressive 50 members across three separate teams, encompassing students from sixth through 12th grades. Participating schools include Brawley, Woodland Heights, Lakeshore, and Selma Burke middle schools.
Notably, the Lake Norman Winter Guard stands as the sole school-specific winter guard team within the entire Iredell Statesville School District.
The program’s success is highlighted by its competitive achievements. The Varsity Winter Guard team was named a Finalist at the 2025 Winter Guard International (WGI) Charlotte Regional. Furthermore, all three Lake Norman Winter Guard teams have earned promotions within the competitive Carolina Winter Ensemble Association (CWEA) circuit.
Winter Guard is a captivating performance art that integrates dance, choreographed movement with equipment (flag, rifle, and saber), and theatrical expression. The program is under the leadership of Director of Bands Chris Brown and Director of Guards Kyle Campbell.
