Iredell County EMS Deputy Director Robby Milton has earned the professional designation of Chief EMS Officer (CEMSO), which is awarded by the Commission on Professional Credentialing.

Milton joins an elite group of only 277 CEMSOs worldwide and is one of just 12 leaders in North Carolina to hold the title. With this achievement, Iredell County is now one of only two EMS agencies in the state to have two CEMSO-credentialed leaders on its staff.
The CEMSO designation is a voluntary credential that recognizes excellence across seven critical pillars: experience, technical competence, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community Involvement and future strategic planning. To earn the credential, candidates must navigate a rigorous, multi-faceted peer review process designed to identify the top tier of emergency medical services leadership.
“Achieving the CEMSO designation is a monumental milestone that speaks volumes about Robby’s unwavering career commitment to the field of emergency services,” said EMS Director Eric Morrison, who earned the CEMSO designation last fall. “In a profession that demands constant evolution, Robby has proven he possesses the high- level strategic vision and technical mastery required to lead at the highest standard. This isn’t just an individual achievement; it’s a reflection of our department’s dedication to excellence.”
The designation is valid for three years. To maintain the CEMSO status, recipients must demonstrate ongoing professional growth, active community engagement, and adherence to a strict code of professional conduct, ensuring their leadership remains sharp and relevant.
