The Rotary Club of Top of the Lake–Mooresville on Tuesday announced the successful sponsorship and chartering of the Rotary Club of Greater Nebbi in Uganda. The new club was officially inducted on February 21, during a ceremony led by International President, Francesco Arezzo, alongside the District Governors of D9213 and D9214.
The effort to establish the Greater Nebbi Club began with Top of the Lake member Edward Jackson, who has traveled to Africa on numerous mission trips. Jackson is member of Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Mooresville, which supports Acres of Hope, a nonprofit, Christ-centered community serving orphaned and vulnerable children in Nebbi, Uganda.
Acres of Hope was founded in 2011 by Pastor Geoffrey Odongo, who began the ministry under a mango tree on a remote acre of land he purchased. Through years of partnership and relationship-building between Nebbi and Mooresville, the vision of forming a Rotary club in the region took shape.
With guidance and mentorship from the Rotary Club of Top of the Lake–Mooresville, Pastor Odongo and other Nebbi community leaders worked for several years to meet Rotary International’s requirements and successfully charter the new club.
“We are honored to sponsor the Rotary Club of Greater Nebbi,” said Mindy Rice, president of the Rotary Club of Top of the Lake–Mooresville. “This partnership demonstrates how local relationships can create global impact. We look forward to working together on sustainable projects that strengthen communities in Uganda and beyond.”
As sponsor club, Top of the Lake–Mooresville provided support throughout the chartering process. The Rotary Club of Greater Nebbi now joins more than 46,000 Rotary clubs worldwide dedicated to promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, supporting education, growing local economies, and protecting the environment.
