A China Grove man faces charges in connection with the armed robbery of a discount store in Mooresville over the weekend.

The Mooresville Police Department announced the arrest of David Daniel Hunter, 62, in a news release on Thursday.
MPD officers were dispatched to 221-R Norman Station Boulevard on Sunday for a report of a robbery of the Dollar Tree store.
The responding officers viewed surveillance footage from inside the store that showed a man enter the store, approach the employees, and producing a handgun, according to the news release. The suspect demanded the employees give him all of the money in the store’s safe, police said.
Once the suspect had the money, he took the store’s phone and left the store, according to the news release.
Police learned that multiple armed robberies occurred at various Dollar Tree stores in other jurisdictions during the previous week. Detectives determined that the suspect had used a dark colored Honda sedan.
Through further investigation, detectives identified Hunter as the suspect, police said.
After warrants were obtained for Hunter’s arrest, the suspect was apprehended with assistance from U.S. Marshals without incident in Bristol, Va., on Wednesday.
Hunter was ordered held without bond pending extradition. He is being held in Abingdon, Va., in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority.
Hunter was charged with Robbery with Dangerous Weapon and Possession of Firearm by a Felon.
More charges are expected to be filed by the Mooresville Police Department as well as surrounding jurisdictions, police said.
The MPD expressed its gratitiude for the U.S. Marshals Service and the Bristol, Va., Police Department for their assistance in apprehending this suspect.
