A North Iredell High School student faces a gun charge after Alexander County Schools District staff and the Taylorsville Police Department investigated an anonymous tip reported through the “See Something Say Something” app on Wednesday.
The identity of the student, who is a juvenile, was not released.
The student reportedly drove to a track and field meet at Alexander Central High School, where he was met by police officers, according to an ACSD news release.
Taylorsville Police Department officers found a gun inside the North Iredell High student’s vehicle, school officials said. At no time was the weapon outside of the student’s vehicle, according to the news release.
The teen was taken into custody and transported to a juvenile detention facility.
An anonymous report made through the “See Something Say Something” app was made at 2:49 p.m. Wednesday by a North Iredell High students.
After the tip was received at 2:49 p.m., the school resource officer at Alexander Central High School relayed the information to the Taylorsville Police Department. No students were threatened or in immediate danger, school officials said.
Alexander County Schools Superintendent Bill Griffin credited the quick response of law enforcement and the anonymous reporting system for the outcome.
