Special Olympics Iredell County held its annual Polar Plunge on Saturday morning at the Statesville Leisure Pool. Supporters of the local nonprofit donated $75 for the chance to slide or jump into the chilly water. 

Local coordinator Bobbi Williams was excited about all the turnout.

“We completely rely on donations and grant writing,” she said. “We never charge our athletes for anything.”

The event raised $31,300 for Special Olympics. The Statesville Fire Department was the top fundraiser for the event.
