A team of Pine Lake Prep students studying Computer Science recently placed second in the first ever statewide AI Solve-a-Thon.
The Pine Lake team of Prakayth Shankar, Aankan Das, Cooper Brown and Gillian Keith used AI to create an app and booth that solved the problem of low efficiency, incorrect paperwork and access at the DMV. They presented their projects on Wednesday, February 11, in Greensboro at the Koury Convention Center, in conjunction with the NCEDConnect conference. Coral Riley is their computer science teacher at PLP.
The NC AI Solve-a-Thon empowers NC public school students in grades 6-12 to apply artificial intelligence (AI) while creating solutions to real problems in their communities.
The Pine Lake team was one of 10 teams from across the state who earned the chance to present at the conference after being one of 25 teams to compete virtually in October.
