A Statesville man faces multiple charges after being stopped for a traffic violation by an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Jonathan Lowman

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Jonathan Ray Lowman, 40, in a social media post on Wednesday.

Deputy B. Lee stopped a truck that Lowman was driving on Lentz Road on Sunday, March 29, Campbell said. During the traffic stop, the deputy discovered that both the vehicle and trailer were displaying fictitious license plates, according to the news release. While attempting to verify the truck’s Vehicle Identification Number, Deputy Lee discovered that it had been altered, Campbell said.

Through further investigation, deputies were able to identify the correct VIN. A search in a national database confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen in August 2025, Campbell said.

The recovered truck and trailer are valued at approximately $20,000.

Lowman was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center and charged with Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle; Felony Altering VIN Numbers; Misdemeanor Fictitious License Plate; and Misdemeanor No Liability Insurance. He was also cited for unsafe tires and a rear lamps violation.

Lowman appeared before Magistrate J. Hollar, who issued a no bond. During the suspect’s first court appearance, he was issued a $20,000 secured bond.
