Additional arrests have been in connection with a larceny at Holly Springs Baptist Church following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday, March 8, a church representative contacted ICSO Deputy B. Lee and provided new information about the theft and destruction of the church’s air conditioning units, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release.
Surveillance video provided by the church showed a second suspect fleeing the property on foot just before Deputy Lee arrived on the scene during the original incident, Campbell said.
After reviewing the footage and continuing the investigation, Deputy Lee identified the second suspect as Sean Craig Peters, 39, of Hamptonville. Based on evidence collected, warrants were obtained for Peters’ arrest for the following charges: felony larceny, felony injury to real property to obtain non-ferrous metals, and felony conspiracy. Peters was entered in crime databases as a wanted individual.
An additional charge for felony conspiracy was also obtained for Jonathan Ryan Taylor, who was previously arrested at the scene.
On Wednesday, March 18, ICSO deputies went to a residence on York Spann Road to serve the warrants on Peters.
While there, they also served an outstanding order for arrest from the Mooresville Police Department on Amy May Dawkins, 39, who was wanted for failure to appear on charges of felony conspiracy and misdemeanor aid and abet larceny.
Deputies located Peters and Dawkins at the residence and arrested them.
While on scene, deputies observed a firearm inside the home, according to the news release. Knowing that Peters is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm, deputies secured the residence and obtained a search warrant.
With the assistance of Criminal Investigations Division personnel and crime scene investigators, deputies executed the search warrant. During the search, they seized methamphetamine, a firearm, drug paraphernalia, and clothing believed to have been used during the March 5 theft, Campbell said.
Peters and Dawkins were also charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, felony maintaining a residence for the use of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Peters was also charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Both suspects received no bond on those additional charges.
Taylor, who was originally arrested on March 5, was also charged with felony conspiracy after investigators determined he worked with Peters in committing the crime, Campbell said. He received an additional $15,000 secured bond by Magistrate J. Hollar.
