Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrests of Kenneth Douglas Lawrence, 35, of Linkside Drive, Lenoir, and Todd Lee Hefner, 36, of Friendship Church Road, Taylorsville, in a news release Tuesday.

An ICSO patrol deputy stopped a vehicle occupied by the two men on Saturday near the intersection of Highway 64 and Woodbridge Road, Campbell said.

After Deputy A. Leggett made contact with Hefner, who was driving, the deputy learned he had an active order for arrest for a charge of Felony Possession of Methamphetamine. The passenger, Lawrence, had an outstanding warrant for a charge of Misdemeanor Larceny.

After Sergeant N. Hodges and ICSO Canine Levi responded to assist, Levi gave a positive alert for the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle, Campbell said. Deputies then searched the vehicle and located approximately 3.61 grams of methamphetamine, packaged in separate baggies, on the passenger-side floorboard, according to the news release.

Lawrence and Hefner were taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Jail.

Hefner was served with his outstanding order for arrest and issued a $15,000 secured bond.

Lawrence was taken before Magistrate Johnson, who found probable cause for the charges of Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Lawrence was issued a $50,000 secured bond for those charges. He was also served with the outstanding warrant and issued an additional $5,000 secured bond related to that case.
