Retired educator John Sherrill is running for the District 3 seat on the Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education.

“I’m running because I feel I understand the needs of the school system,” Sherrill, a Republican, said in his campaign announcement. “With my background in education, I think I’ll be able to help. I am not concerned with having a ‘title,’ but I want to be in a position to help everyone in the school system.”
A lifelong Iredell County resident, Sherrill described himself as a “proud product” of Iredell-Statesville Schools. He earned my Associate of Arts degree from Mitchell Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Appalachian State University, and a master’s degree in Physical Education from Gardner-Webb University.
His career in public education spanned 31 years, including 29 years serving students and families in I-SS. He became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2001. Throughout his career, he held leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels.
“If elected, my priorities will be to focus more on solving issues and getting things accomplished,” he said. “I know the budget is always a major issue, and I have a good understanding of how the school system budget operates.”
