A Jefferson man has been charged with breaking into a home off North Oakland Avenue in Statesville and assaulting the homeowner.

The Statesville Police Department announced the arrest of Ahmed Nagi Mohamed Aldaibani, 27, in a news release on Tuesday.

About 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, SPD officers responded to the 300 block of North Oakland Avenue after receiving a report about a breaking and entering in progress.

When officers arrived at the residence, the homeowner reported that an unknown male suspect unlawfully entered her home while she was asleep and physically assaulted her, according to the news release. The victim managed to escape and seek assistance from a nearby neighbor, who contacted law enforcement, police said.

The perpetrator fled the scene prior to officers arriving at the home. Iredell County EMS personnel responded and provided medical evaluation and treatment to the victim.

The victim provided responding officers with a description of the man who assaulted her.

Additional officers in the area located an individual matching that description near Alexander Street. When officers attempted to make contact, the man fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away without further incident.

The suspect was identified as Aldaibani. He was charged with breaking and entering to terrorize or injure, assault by strangulation, sexual battery, assault on a female, false Imprisonment, and resisting a public officer.

He was taken before an Iredell County magistrate and issued a $150,000 secured bond.
