Statesville High School and Crossroads Early College were evacuated Monday morning as law enforcement personnel investigated a bomb threat.
At approximately 8 a.m. Monday, a bomb threat was reported as Statesville High, Iredell-Statesville Schools said in a news release. The caller also reported being in possession of an AR-15, according to the Statesville Police Department.
Officers immediately responded to the school and, in coordination with school administration, began evacuating students and staff from the building. Once the school was safely evacuated, officers conducted a thorough search of the property. The search included bomb detection K-9 assistance from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
Personnel from Statesville Police Department and Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and cleared the building, school officials said.
Both Statesville High and Crossroads Early College, which is located on the SHS campus, are operating on a two-hour delay schedule.
“We appreciate the partnership of our law enforcement agencies,” the school district said in the news release. “Iredell-Statesville Schools remains committed to the safety of our students and staff.”
