A Statesville man faces felony drug charges after being stopped for speeding in a school zone by Troutman Police Department officers.

The TPD announced the arrest of Cornelius Faulkner, 45, in a news release.

Officers were conducting traffic enforcement on S. Main Street at Troutman Elementary School about 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, when they stopped a vehicle for speeding in the school zone, according to the news release. After approaching the vehicle, which was being operated by Faulkner, officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, which led officers to conduct a search of the car, police said.

During the search, officers found and seized 4.6 grams of cocaine, 31 dosage units of ecstasy, and 111 grams of marijuana, along with three legally possessed pistols, according to the news release.

Faulkner was arrested and charged with felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance, felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell or distribute marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances.

He was taken before a magistrate, who set his bond at $10,000.
