The N.C. State Highway Patrol has identified the individual who was fatally injured Monday morning in a crash on Interstate 40 in Iredell County.

Troopers responded to the scene of the crash on I-40 near mile marker 154 about 9:42 a.m. Monday.

According to the NCSHP, a 2010 Toyota Highlander was traveling east on I-40 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove off the right side of the road. The vehicle then struck an embankment and overturned several times, troopers said.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as Lee Glover, 78, of Morganton was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, troopers said. He was not wearing his seatbelt.

The front seat passenger, Catherine Glover of Morganton, was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The initial investigation indicates that the driver was exceeding a safe speed for the conditions, which contributed to the crash, according to the NCSHP.

The interstate remained open during the on-scene investigation.
