Special to IFN

The Iredell Arts Council invites the community to the next installment of its Well Crafted series, an intimate evening of music and conversation set inside the historic Old County Jail. Curated by Asheville pedal steel guitarist Matthew Smith, the event will take place on Thursday, March 26, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Designed as a listening experience rather than a traditional concert, Well Crafted events offer audiences a unique opportunity to engage more deeply with music. Each evening blends live performance with thoughtful conversation, giving insight into the stories, creative processes, and long-standing relationships behind the songs.

This installment features a special collaboration between Smith, Seth Kauffman, and Evan Martin—three musicians whose creative paths have been intertwined for more than two decades.

Kauffman, best known as the creative force behind Floating Action, has earned widespread recognition for his soulful songwriting and genre-defying sound. A distinctive voice emerging from Asheville’s music scene, he has shared the stage with acclaimed artists including Ray LaMontagne, Jim James, and Lana Del Rey.

Joining him is Martin, an accomplished drummer known for his work with the Asheville-based Americana band Amanda Anne Platt & The Honeycutters. The group has toured internationally and performed at major festivals such as MerleFest, AmericanaFest, and Mountain Stage.

Together, these musicians bring a deep sense of collaboration and connection to the stage. Their chemistry creates a performance that feels less like a formal show and more like an open, musical dialogue inviting audiences into a shared creative experience.

Set within the intimate and historic atmosphere of the Old Jail, attendees can expect an evening of thoughtful songwriting, spontaneous moments, and genuine artistic exchange.

The Old County Jail is located at 203 S. Meeting Street in Statesville.
