Piedmont HealthCare is pleased to welcome Dr. Benjamin Hinkel to PHC Lake Norman OB/GYN.
Hinkel joins the team with a passion for women’s health, a strong background in obstetrics and gynecology, and a care philosophy centered on compassion, respect, and empowering patients. The established group includes Dr. Wilson, Dr. Miller, Dr. Al-Hussaini, Dr. Arigo, Dr. Wellbaum, and Dr. Frye, offering patients more access to care and quicker appointment availability.
After earning his medical degree at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences, Hinkel completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where he also earned the Maternal Fetal Medicine Award for Excellence in Obstetrics. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, recognizing his academic achievement and leadership in medicine.
Drawn to the variety and meaningful impact of women’s health, Hinkel found his calling during his OB/GYN rotation in medical school.
“I loved the opportunity to play a role in such important moments of people’s lives,” he said. “I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
His clinical interests include high-risk obstetrics, abnormal uterine bleeding, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and contraception counseling and management. At the core of his practice is a commitment to evidence-based care and shared decision-making.
“I want patients to feel heard, respected, and confident in their care,” Hinkel explained.
Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Hinkel and his wife are excited to put down roots in the Lake Norman community with their two young sons and family dog. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, skiing, camping, woodworking, and cooking. He admits he runs on strong black coffee and looks forward to exploring both the mountains and beaches of North Carolina.
“The people at Lake Norman OB/GYN have made me feel at home from the start,” Hinkel said. “I’m excited to grow here, both as a physician and as part of this community.”
