Mr. Steven Wanda Gillespie, 54, of 1411 Reid Street, Statesville, N.C., passed away at Gordon Hospice House on Thursday, January 16, 2020, following an extended illness. He was born in Iredell County on June 7, 1965, and was the son of Terry Gene Cauthen and the late Charlene Marie Gillespie. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sister, Selena Gillespie.

He attended the Iredell County Schools and Gardner-Webb University. He served with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Lapel Button, Rifle M-15 Sharpshooter, Hand Grenade and Sharpshooter awards. He also attended Chestnut Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his father, he leaves to cherish the memory of his life his companion, Robin E. Tucker of Statesville; two daughters, Renarta C. Mack and Stephanie N. Gillespie, both of Statesville; six grandchildren, Daysha L. Carr, Tatlilyah A. Carr, Alijah M. Gillespie, Aniyah J. Pledger, C’ashjah Z. Joyner and Aalyah M. Ellis, all of Statesville; an uncle, Charles Gillespie of Charlotte; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends, including Keith Holmes of Statesville.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Bishop Wilford Walls will officiate. Members of the family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m., but will assemble at the residence at other times.
