James Marcel “Marty” White, 79, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully on early Friday morning, July 23, 2021, at Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C., surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 20, 1942, in Mooresville, to the late James and Katherine Sloop White. Marty was a 1960 graduate of Mooresville High School and a 1964 graduate of Catawba College. He was retired from Burlington Industries. Marty had a superb work ethic, almost always balancing two jobs. It was not uncommon for him to work a 60-plus hour work week until 2016. He was a member of Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, Mooresville, where he served as a deacon. Marty was a former member of the Spinning Moors Square Dance Club. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed watching television, playing cards, shooting pool, and visiting and talking with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step granddaughter.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Cavin and husband Lee; Christel Ruttens and family, a Belgian foreign exchange student who lived with the White family during the 1988-1989 school year; stepsons, Chuck Mayhew and Buster Mayhew; stepdaughter, Vickie Ivester; brother, Terry White and wife Judy; niece, Emilee Lindsay and husband Rich; step nephew, Keith Morrow and wife Rachel; four great nephews; four step grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, at Heritage House of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Pastor Inger Manchester officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 6 p.m.
