Andra Arimathea Cowan, 66, of Cleveland, N.C., passed away unexpectedly following a motorcycle accident on Saturday, May 17, 2025. He was born in Iredell County on July 16, 1958, to the late Ezra Cowan and Mamie Mitchell.
Mr. Cowan proudly served his country in the United States Army and later worked as a skilled welder before retiring. He obtained his GED and attended Rowan County Schools.
Known for his love of cooking, grilling, reading, riding motorcycles, and cheering for the Minnesota Vikings, Andra was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ezra Cowan, and a cherished nephew, Lyndon “Tai” Cowan.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Mamie Mitchell; three sons, Jamar Williams of Winston-Salem, N.C., Ezekiel Curry of Charlotte, N.C., and Andra Cowan of Salisbury, N.C.; two daughters, Shanika Ezerhsrt of Mooresville, N.C., and Shakayla Cowan of Concord, N.C.; his siblings, Ashley Cowan, Ruben Cowan, Jerome Cowan, and Venetia Cowan, all of Cleveland, N.C., Ezra Cowan of Charleston, S.C., and Chavis (Laura) Cowan of Maryland; and six beloved grandchildren, Emory Curry, Ava Curry, Gabriel Curry, Keith “Isaiah Jr.” Cowan, Enaleah Imeglis, and Logan Evans.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Pastor Henry Cowan will be officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
