Anne Stilwell Velez, 66, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center.

She was born on February 19, 1959, in Mooresville, but was a North Meck native. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Barbara Wesson Stilwell. Mrs. Velez was a retired custodian with Langtree Charter Academy in Mooresville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Anthony Velez Sr.; and brother, Mark Stilwell.

She is survived by her children, Jessica Holder (Jesse) and Tony Velez (Cynthia); brothers, Richard Stilwell and Keith Stilwell; grandchildren, Natalie, Alyssa, and Bjorn; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, children, and her feline daughter, Isabelle, who loved her dearly.

Anne was not saved in the eyes of man by going through the ritual of the church. Anne was saved directly by God. Her God. The way she saw God. In her heart between them as a testament to the love for each other and for the love of all others.

Anne was a person who never met a stranger. Once she met you she would always remember you by name and be able to say when and where she met you. Not only that she could remember stories of what you did together.

Why … because she valued you in her life.

In return Anne was rewarded in life by you because you looked out for her and she knew that.

Many of you called her Mama as children and as adults.

You all protected mama.

Anne loved her children and her grandchildren more than anything else. She was as fiercely protective of them as they were of her.

Anne loved her extended family as well and was the goto for family history. She could tell stories long forgotten by everyone.

Anne was a loyal servant to her family her friends and God.

Finally: Anne was more Christian than a lot of Christians I know and to think otherwise you would be wrong.

Yet… She worried about that.

Rest in peace.

We love you Anne.

A Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, at Shearer Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Stout and Rev. Cory Wing officiating.
