Archie Michael Campbell Jr., affectionately called “Mike” by family and friends, son of Lenora and Charles Morgan, was born on November 23, 1957, in New York City. He departed this life on September 12, 2025, at his home in Mooresville, N.C.
Even as a youngster, Mike was an inquisitive child and this inquisitiveness followed him throughout his life. He attended P.S 60 elementary school in the Bronx, N.Y., and upon graduating attended and graduated from August Martin High School in Queens, N.Y.
Mike’s first full-time job was as a service maintenance worker with Eastern Airlines. After leaving Eastern Airlines, he went to work for his father as a cook (his true passion) in the kitchen of the Boston Road Ballroom in the Bronx, N.Y. Upon leaving “The Ballroom,” Mike accepted a position in New York City government with the Department of General Services at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, again serving as a service maintenance worker. Upon leaving New York, he relocated to North Carolina and accepted a position as a Corrections Officer at the North Carolina Piedmont Correctional Facility, from which he retired in 2022.
Mike lived a good life and loved his family and many pets. He enjoyed fishing, watching both boxing and the History Channel, and cooking for himself and family members, showing his impressive culinary skills. His signature dishes included banana pancakes, spaghetti lasagna, fried catfish, banana pudding, German chocolate cake. and sweet potato pie, only to name a few – all restaurant quality creations!
Mike leaves to mourn his mother and father, Lenora and Charles Morgan of Henderson, N.C.; his sister, Zoe Ann Campbell of East Patchogue, N.Y.; sons, Michael Campbell III of Wappinger Falls, N.Y., and Tyrrell Campbell of Concord, N.C.; a grand-daughter, Anyae Campbell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and close relatives Jennifer West of Raleigh, N.C., Denise West of the Bronx, N.Y., and Stuart West of Raleigh, N.C., and a host of relatives and friends.
Rest in peace. Mike.
