
Betty Jean Sprinkle Patterson, 98, of Taylorsville, N.C., passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. She was born March 11, 1927, in Alexander County, the daughter of Hugh Paul Sprinkle and Ida Belle Adams Sprinkle.
Betty graduated from Hiddenite High School during World War II (1944). After high school she moved to Charlotte, N.C., and worked in accounting for Southern Bell. She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Edgar Wayne Patterson Jr., after the war. They lived in New York twice, for 2½ years each time when Wayne was with the Kendall Company. They made their home in Charlotte, where she was active in the Spring Valley Garden Club and enjoyed their friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Edgar Wayne Patterson Jr.; her brother, Paul Conrad Sprinkle; and her sister, Marjorie Ida Belle Lackey (Phil).
Those left to cherish and honor Betty’s memories include her sister, Doris Martin (Jay) of Cary, N.C.; her brothers, Douglas Sprinkle and Donald Sprinkle; her sister-in-law, Jerry Sprinkle of Charlotte, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews and their children.
A Graveside Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Shady Grove Cemetery. Dr. James Smith will officiate. Pallbearers include Scott Sprinkle, Rodney Sprinkle, Eric Sprinkle, Phillip Lackey, and Jeff Martin.
