Betty Ruth Lee Lunsford, 94, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville. Born December 17, 1930, in Mooresville, she was the daughter of the late William Rueben Lee and Lona Blanch Nance Lee.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Lunsford, and by seven of her siblings. Mrs. Lunsford is survived by her children, David Lunsford (Patricia), Jimmy Lunsford (Wendy), Lisa Hall (Wayne), and Mark Lunsford (Kim); grandchildren: Emily (Alden), Michelle, Shannon (Eric), Aaron (Cassie), Alexandria (Brennan), Caitlin (Kyle), Justin (Elizabeth), Melissa (Ricky), Ryan (Katie), Stephen (Casey), Danielle (Mateo), and Brooke; and 22 great grandchildren who all brought light and pride to her days. She is also survived by her sister, Beverly Chappell (CP) of Mooresville, along with many loved nieces and nephews.

A devoted homemaker and beautician, Betty poured her heart into caring for her family. She had a creative spirit. She loved decorating cakes, and in her younger years, directing weddings and sharing her love for Southern gospel music. As a teenager, she sang in a quartet. In her adult years, she enjoyed singing in a trio and she was a faithful member of the choir. Her deep and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ was the anchor of her life. She was raised in Mooresville Church of God as a teen and was a longtime member of Oakdale Church of God as well as Kannapolis Church of God.

Betty was known for her sharp sense of style, energy, and vibrant, spunky personality. Even at 94, she proudly kept up with her home and yard. She was quick with a laugh and always ready to host a family party or a chat on her back porch. She delighted in fresh tomatoes from her garden, working word searches, and FaceTiming with her great-grandchildren – moments that brought her tremendous joy.
We will always remember Betty for her resilience, her loving spirit, and her example of grace and faith lived out every day.

The celebration of life for Betty will be held at 12 noon on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Kannapolis Church of God.
