Brenda Gillespie Caldwell, born February 10, 1954, to the late Walker Gillespie and Carrie Gaither Gillespie, transitioned October 14, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C., after an extended illness.

Brenda was preceded in death by two brothers, James Ralph Gillespie and Jerry Lee Gillespie; and three sisters, Mary Frances Goldsmith, Kara Garnell Waiters, and Margaret Delores Boyce. Her beloved son, Corey “Sam” Caldwell, also preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Reginald Caldwell (Julia); one daughter, Chenedra Caldwell; one granddaughter, Shaneka Brown; one grandson, Coby Caldwell; and a great granddaughter, Kaidance Brown. Brenda was previously married to Ronald Caldwell, who also survives. In addition to her children, Brenda is survived by one brother, Charles Gillespie (Mary Diane who was so much more than a sister-in-law) and two sisters, Kimberly Kimbrough and Michelle Boller; along with several sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and family.

Brenda was the designated family cake baker and potato salad maker for all family functions. She could always be counted on to make it happen by any means necessary. While her physical presence will be greatly missed, she left a lasting impression on everyone she came in contact with.

A memorial service to honor the life of Brenda will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Gateway to Heaven Church, 1336 Winston Avenue, Statesville NC 28677. Apostle Kenneth Odom will bring the home-going message.
