Carolyn Caldwell Howard, 79, of Ocean Isle, N.C., passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at McLeod Seacoast Hospital in Little River, S.C.

She was born on July 28, 1945, in Mooresville, N.C., to the late Mott and Lilly Christie Caldwell. Mrs. Howard worked for Sanger Cardiology for several years. She was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church in Ocean Isle, where she sang in the choir and served on various committees. She loved thrift shopping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Howard enjoyed her shrimp and deviled crab plate from Beck’s every Friday.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Lewis “Chick” Ray Howard; and brother, Billy Caldwell.

She is survived by her sons, Brian R. Howard (Karen), and David L. Howard (Natasha); grandchildren, Hailey Howard, Chase Howard, Gabby Howard, Lilly Howard, Thomas Harvell, Madison Harvell, Samantha Comer, and Nicole Betterman; and great grandson, Owen Betterman.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 31, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Spry officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.
