Daniel Joseph Farnsworth, 81, of Greenville, S.C., passed away Monday, August 4, 2025, at his residence.
Dan was born March 13, 1944, in Greenville to the late Jack Furman Farnsworth and Virginia Miller Farnsworth. He was a 1962 graduate of Greenville High School, and he received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina Law School in 1969. He was a member of SAE Fraternity and Christ Episcopal Church.
Dan was beloved by his friends and family. He was one of the University of South Carolina’s most loyal fans. During his 55-year legal career as a criminal defense attorney, he never wavered from the notion that one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Dan was an avid golfer and long-time member of the Greenville Country Club and the South Carolina Bar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Farnsworth, and one sister, Ann Grant.
Those left to cherish Dan’s memory are his wife, Carol Farnsworth; a son, Dan Farnsworth Jr. of Keysville, Va.; daughter-in-law, Tammy Farnsworth; a daughter, Kathleen Braun of Kenbridge, Va.; son-in-law, David Braun; grandchildren, Cullen Farnsworth of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jared Farnsworth of Keysville, Va., Campbell Farnsworth and Cates Farnsworth of Greenville, S.C., and Waylon Braun of Kenbridge, Va.; stepdaughter, Abbi Troutman (William) of Statesville, N.C.; step-grandsons, Cooper Troutman and Jack Troutman; sister, Jackie Hizel of Fayetteville, Ga.; and nephews, Jack Farnsworth (Kristin), Jeff Farnsworth and Patrick Hizel (Lindsey), along with other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 8, at Christ Church Episcopal with Rev. Lindy Bunch officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
