
Donald “Don” Eugene Stewart, 82, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family.
Don was born on December 18, 1942, in Iredell County to the late Harley Eugene Stewart and Cleo Morrow Stewart. He was a graduate of Celeste Henkel High School. A mason by trade, he was first employed by Elmore Construction and later formed Watt and Stewart Masonry Contractors with Thomas Watt Sr. After the company’s dissolution, he joined Iredell-Statesville Schools in the maintenance department, where he retired after more than 25 years of service.
An avid outdoorsman, Don loved hunting, fishing, and tending his garden. He was a member of the West Iredell Ruritan Club, the Iredell Gun Club, and Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Jackie Fox, Betty Warren, and Lois Isenhour.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 61 years, Brenda Lou Byers Stewart; daughters, Kimberly Stewart Brown (Jimmy) of Taylorsville and Stephanie Stewart Hoffman (Brian) of Statesville; grandchildren, Logan Hoffman Shaat (Abdul), Mattie Rae Brown Hennen (Cole), Brock Stewart Hoffman (Abbey), Stewart Scott Brown (Emily Adams), and Hannah Louise Hoffman; great-grandchild, Archie James Hennen; and brother, Joe Ray Stewart (Linda).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 8, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Kramm officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
